A member of the DFL Senate caucus, Ann Rest has represented District 45 in the MN Senate since 2001. She is the current Senate President Pro-Tempore (2023-present) and has served as an assistant majority leader (2003 -2007) and Senate President Pro Tem (2013–2017).
Senator Rest is the chair of the Senate Taxes Committee. She is the only Minnesota legislator who has served as the chair of the Taxes Committees in both the Senate and the House (1993-1997). Her 2023-24 Committee assignments include Commerce and Consumer Protection, Elections, and Rules and Administration (Vice-Chair). She serves on the Legislative Audit Commission, which she has chaired five times, either in the House or the Senate. She currently chairs the Financial Audit Committee. She is the current chair of the Tax Review Expenditure Commission.
Before being elected to the Senate, Ann represented Crystal, New Hope, and Golden Valley in the House of Representatives.
